Race to Debt Free Education:

Welcome to the RC Vision campaign page on the student loan system. As a social venture and community interest company that focuses on tackling inequity in STEM by engaging minoritized young people in radio control car racing, we believe that access to education should be a basic right for everyone, regardless of their background. Unfortunately, the current British student loan system is failing to provide that access and instead is disproportionately impacting students from lower-income backgrounds and creating a heavy burden for graduates for decades to come, known as the 'graduate tax'.

One of the most egregious aspects of this system is how it disproportionately affects poorer students. Under the current system, students from lower-income backgrounds are required to borrow more to cover the costs of tuition and living expenses and are “taxed” at a higher rate than wealthier students afterwards. This effectively punishes those already disadvantaged and undermines the idea of equal access to education, a cornerstone of social justice and social mobility.

We have chosen to launch this campaign because we believe that the student loan system is a crucial issue that affects us all. The 'graduate tax' affects not only the graduates themselves but also the economy, with graduates struggling to pay off their loans and unable to afford to purchase homes or start families, leading to a decline in economic activity and a decrease in overall societal well-being.

Furthermore, education is an important part of our society. It plays a vital role in developing the skills and knowledge required for individuals to succeed in their chosen fields and in turn, contributes to the economic and social development of the country. Higher education is also essential for innovation, research and development and is the key to a more productive and competitive society.

Our campaign plan includes conducting research on the current state of the student loan system, developing a clear and concise message, identifying target audiences, launching a media campaign, organizing grassroots mobilization efforts, engaging with policymakers, seeking partnerships, regularly evaluating the campaign's effectiveness, sharing personal stories, and keeping the campaign simple and easy to understand.

We are asking supporters of RC Vision to help us in this campaign by raising awareness about the issues with the student loan system, sharing our message and personal stories, and contacting policymakers to advocate for change. Additionally, you can support us financially to help us in our research and mobilization efforts. Together, as a community interest company, we can make a difference and create a more equitable student loan system that benefits not only the graduates but society as a whole and promote social justice and social mobility.
