Mini Masters Rules

Mini Masters offers a simple, affordable way into RC car racing — and a low-fuss, genuinely enjoyable class for experienced racers to run alongside their usual racing.

The rules are designed to protect that balance. They limit unnecessary technical development, use readily available equipment and create a fair, competitive level playing field where the focus is on building, driving and enjoying close racing.

The construction rules have been developed with the kit manufacturers. Changes are only made with unanimous agreement from the endorsing manufacturers, who must produce a commercially available kit compliant with this rule set and uphold the spirit of Mini Masters racing.

Common gearing limit

Applies to both classes

Both Mini Sport and Mini Clubman use the same maximum permitted gearing.

Maximum pinion: 24TMinimum spur: 40TMaximum combination: 24/40

Lower gearing is permitted. Do not run a combination taller than 24/40.

Core construction rules

Rolling chassis.

Dimensions & materials

  • Maximum rolling-chassis width: 161mm.
  • Wheelbase: 175mm ±2mm, identical on both sides.
  • Permitted chassis materials include steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminium alloy, GRP, carbon-skinned GRP and solid plastic. Titanium and monolithic carbon fibre are not permitted.
  • Fasteners must be steel or stainless steel; identifiable weights must be brass, steel or zinc.

Chassis & drivetrain

  • The chassis must be a single continuous sheet at least 2mm thick, built for a transverse four-cell Sub-C pack.
  • Only body-post and aerial-mast holes may be added; no other chassis cut-outs or modifications.
  • Rear-wheel drive only, using Z-drive or dog/slot drive. No differentials, limited-slip devices, hex drives or pin drives.
  • 32dp gears only. Wheels: 38–40mm diameter and 20–26mm wide; tyres must cover the full rim.

Suspension, body & parts.

Rear suspension & axle

Plastic pod sides are required, connected to a flat one-piece base plate. Rear articulation is by a single pivot ball joint only. A maximum of three spring or elastomeric-band attachment locations may control the rear pod. Sealed shocks, dampers, friction plates and straw dampers are not permitted. Rear axle height is limited to the prescribed high/low positions.

Front suspension & steering

Independent front suspension is permitted only where camber and caster remain compliant through travel. Front wishbones and steering hubs must be plastic; kingpins and 4mm stub axles must be steel or stainless steel. Adjustment is limited to shims, washers, wedge spacers or designed wishbone features.

Bodyshells

Use commercially available bodyshells on the organiser’s approved list. Windows stay clear; only mounting and wing holes are permitted. One wing only, within 160mm width, 35mm length and 25mm maximum height. Headlights and grilles must be clearly defined, and the shell must be securely mounted with no harmful sharp edges.

Optional parts

No modified kit parts, prototypes, one-offs or mixed non-standard assemblies. Manufacturer-approved options are allowed only when commercially available at least four weeks before the event and compliant with these rules.

Brushless electronics & safety

Shared requirements.

  • ESC must have blinky mode enabled: no boost, no turbo, £80 maximum and reverse disabled.
  • Hard-cased 2-cell 7.4V or 7.6V LiPo only; charge to a maximum 8.40V and use a LiPo sack.
  • Observe manufacturer charge/discharge guidance, maximum 15A charge and 20A discharge; no heating or cooling during charge/discharge.
  • Minimum ready-to-race weight: 840g.
  • Any commercially available servo under £50.
