RC Vision Appoints Sports Safeguarding Specialist Linda Medlicott
Protecting Health and Wellbeing of Young People Focal Point as Motorsport UK Head of Safeguarding Joins Advisory Team
London, England - Sept. 29, 2021. RC Vision, the social venture on a mission to use the sport of electric radio control car racing to close the diversity gap in motorsport and STEM careers in general, has bolstered its advisory team with the appointment of safeguarding sports professional Linda Medlicott. The safeguarding lead at motorsport’s national governing body, Motorsport UK, Medlicott is a leading expert in safeguarding, and its many implications for equality, diversity and inclusion.
RC Vision founder Andy Hyde commented on the appointment: “Building STEM engagement and science capital with children aged 7-11 is critical to closing the diversity gap, and safeguarding is essential to generating positive impact. Our activities will generate unique insight into children’s development and wellbeing. Linda’s expertise is vital in ensuring we can keep children safe by spotting and responding to warning signs and using our platform to educate them on the dangers in and around our sport. I am delighted Linda has agreed to join our team.”
With a background in education, Linda was a safeguarding officer with the English Football League before joining Motorsport UK and is uniquely placed to understand the application of effective safeguarding in a radio-controlled motorsport environment.
Linda commented:
“I am excited to be joining the RC Vision advisory team. I am passionate about safeguarding and inclusion therefore I am encouraged by the foresight of the RC Vision founders for ensuring safeguarding is considered at all stages of the project’s development and delivery.
“Ensuring safeguarding is discussed and considered openly at all levels nurtures and grows a positive safeguarding culture, and empowers and educates its members and participants to feel safe and valued. We all understand that issues can arise in any community but when everyone feels valued and respected they are empowered to challenge poor behaviour with confidence that they will be listened to and supported.
“I look forward to being a part of this exciting project where children will know they are respected, safe, and can enjoy building positive relationships whilst discovering new interests and learning new skills.”
The advisory team will meet on a quarterly basis to bring expertise, professional and lived experience to support the board of directors in achieving impact.
