Motorsport Trailblazer Carol Glenn Joins RC Vision
UK Motorsport’s First Black Female Race Official Sees Radio Control Car Racing As A Key Component In Tackling Motorsport’s Lack Of Diversity
London, England - Sept. 21, 2021. RC Vision, a new social venture on a mission to use the sport of electric radio control car racing to close the diversity gap in motorsports and STEM careers in general, today announced the appointment of diversity campaigner and motorsport pioneer Carol Glenn as the first member of its advisory team. Glenn, with 30 years of experience as a motorsport official, has become a prominent voice alongside Lewis Hamilton in the movement to accelerate change and improve representation in the sport she loves.
“Carol’s lived experience is vital to our venture,” said RC Vision founder Andy Hyde. “There are few people as committed to our cause. We all want change to happen quickly, but perseverance will be absolutely key. Carol’s energy and drive are inspirational and will be invaluable. We are delighted she has agreed to join the team.”
Following the murder of George Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, Glenn decided to speak up about the abuse and discrimination she has endured, and the barriers limiting her career in motorsport. Her story resonated with people everywhere, gaining national media attention and becoming an embodiment of discrimination in the sector.
Carol commented:
“When I first started in motorsport 30 years ago, it was all white men and there was a focus on attracting women to the sport by recruiting female marshals and volunteers. Female drivers were always few and far between. Nowadays there are more female marshals, stewards and racers. But what you don’t see still is people of colour, anywhere in the sport. You can count them on one hand.”
“I hadn’t thought of the role radio control motorsport could play in tackling diversity until I met Andy, but now it seems such an obvious place to start. Kids from all walks of life like RC cars, and when you see the electric racing cars they are amazing machines. What’s impressed me about RC Vision is its focus on accessibility in the community. By developing facilities in the right places, we can take down barriers and open the world of motorsport to more diverse communities. I look forward to doing just that with RC Vision.”
Further members of the advisory team will be announced in due course, with the ambition of bringing expertise, professional and lived experience to support the board of directors in the mission.
