RC VISION AND OXFORD UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIP SHOWS POTENTIAL
London, UK - November 22, 2023. RC Vision, a pioneering social venture committed to bridging the diversity gap in STEM learning and career engagement, is thrilled to announce its partnership with the University of Oxford's SDG Impact Lab and the innovative "Sport Leaders Programme" now vividly showcased in a newly released video capturing the unique bend of sport and education.
The Sport Leaders Programme is a six-week initiative that will engage 30 Year 8 students from Greyfriars School, where a third of the students receive benefits related free school meals. Every week, these students will spend a day at Oxford University, participating in a mix of sports and educational sessions. These activities are designed to connect with school subjects and illuminate potential career paths, enriching students' academic and personal development.
RC Vision’s unique focus on STEM skills is their application across careers through the lens of radio control motorsport. This mission is being supported and facilitated by the Saïd Business School.
"We believe that the fun and excitement of radio control car racing can be a powerful tool to engage young minds in STEM," says Andy Hyde, founder of RC Vision. "Through this programme, students will discover how the skills and strengths they already possess can serve as a foundation for a diverse range of careers."
The Sport Leaders Programme aims to make a tangible impact on the community by improving health and wellbeing, enhancing the quality of education, and fostering economic growth.
"Our latest video not only captures the essence of the Sport Leaders Programme but also shows how engaging with our programme empowers young minds, vividly demonstrating its profound impact on the participants" adds Hyde.
Mishern Chetty, from the Saïd Business School (Finance Senior Manager at Liberty Global and Strategic Advisor to the CFO of Formula E) , initiated the collaboration. He commented, “Being a part of this unique initiative with RC Vision at the Saïd Business School has been a remarkable experience. This initiative fosters essential skills among young students and sows the seeds of inspiration, aligning perfectly with the School's mission of developing future leaders who create impactful changes. This is precisely what we mean by making an impact from within—transforming individuals who, in turn, transform communities and the world.”
Empowering through Informal Learning and Self-Discovery
At the heart of the collaboration is a shared commitment to the transformative power of informal learning. This approach extends beyond traditional classroom boundaries, offering experiential and hands-on activities that foster personal growth, social connectivity, and competence—key in combating educational inequities.
“RC Visions approach illustrates this philosophy perfectly. Model car racing is not just an enjoyable sport; it's a platform for developing essential skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. These competencies are invaluable across various life and work scenarios, and that is the core of the idea behind the programme” said Oliver Cook, the Oxford SDG Impact Lab Programme Manager, a former world champion and Olympic rower.
Moreover, the Sport Leaders Programme emphasises the importance of self-discovery in career development. Participants develop a deeper understanding of their abilities, preferences, and potential career paths by engaging in challenging and exciting activities. This self-awareness is crucial for making informed choices about their future in STEM and beyond.
Seeking Collaboration for Future Growth
RC Vision actively seeks further partnerships with corporate sponsors and community schools interested in participating in our transformative programmes. We invite like-minded organisations and educational institutions to join us in this exciting journey to empower the next generation through STEM education.
