Engineering Industry Leader Dr Ollie Folayan Joins RC Vision

Co-Founder of Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers Becomes Fourth Member of Advisory Team

London, England - Nov. 8, 2021. RC Vision today announces the appointment of Dr Ollie Folayan as the fourth member of its advisory team. Dr Folayan is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, co-founder of the award-winning Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers, and one of the country's leading process engineers.

"I am thrilled to welcome Ollie to the team", commented RC Vision founder Andy Hyde. "Ollie has been at the forefront of EDI, sustainability, and the importance of career role models for 15 years. His passion, experience and expertise are second to none".

By developing radio control car facilities in locations accessible for minoritised communities, RC Vision aims to reach out and engage children and young people of colour in the world of electric radio control car racing. As a result, RC Vision will generate opportunities for young people to develop 'engineering habits of mind', develop STEM career aspirations, and connect with role models.

Folayan, an author of two publications on the importance of role models in the transition from study to the workplace in the engineering profession, agrees.

"I know how important the work of RC Vision will be in helping young people engage with STEM learning and identify with the career paths available to them. I have led successful community initiatives with organisations like Shell and the Royal Academy of Engineering. However, what excites me about RC Vision is the route to scale. The activity is perfect for mass reach, with a fun factor that's hard to beat. But make no mistake, the impact will be life-changing for many marginalised young people. I can't wait to have a go myself!"

In addition to a wealth of experience, Folayan brings access to an extensive network of connections to STEM employers, sponsors and programme funders, including through AFBE’s contributions to the Hamilton Commission. Founded by multiple F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, the commission’s recent report into the diversity gap within the wider motorsports industry laid bare the scale of the challenge RC Vision hopes to help solve.
